Welcome to Charm City. After nine novels, twelve feature length screenplays, and thousands of rejection letters from literary agents and traditional publishers, I’ve decided to put my work out there.
“Write what you know.” It’s a slogan I had heard early in my writing endeavors. After well over a decade of novel and screenplay creation, I finally decided to put it into practice around 2005. I began selling yellow pages advertising to businesses in 2004. Even in that first year I constantly heard, “No one uses yellow pages anymore.” This wasn’t completely accurate (yet) as I was able to make a good living at Yellow Book, USA for seven years. (Yellow Book miraculous survived and is now primarily an electronic advertising company called Hibu. They stopped distributing physical yellow pages several years ago.) I earned every penny at Yellow Book. The grind of cold calling and rejection was amplified by the fact that my medium was indeed dying a slow and painful death. The first draft of CHARM CITY KILLER was completed in 2007, then entitled THE LAST YELLOW PAGE SALESMAN. Two title changes, six complete rewrites, and more than twenty edits later yielded the final version of CHARM CITY KILLER available today. When you read it, you’ll feel my struggle through Moe Steadman, and you’ll experience a world that no longer exists, despite it being only fifteen short years ago. Keep in mind the novel has a unique dedication to things not being what they seem, along with a dedication to buffering the dark with humor. Despite Moe Steadman’s witty cynicism and general hatred toward humans, ultimately the novel is equally dedicated to the survival of and belief in the human spirit.
